We started with a flock of native breed Whitefaced Woodland sheep. Though we will always have a few "Woodies" around to clean up the courser grass, we now buy store lambs in the autumn to finish on deferred grass and hay over the winter.
After experimenting by out-wintering some Belted Galloway cattle, we purchased four bullocks in 2024 and added four Aberdeen Angus stirks in Spring 2025 . The BGs are particularly well suited to grazing the diverse, species-rich grassland being established here. The AAs bring a more commercial aspect.
Silage has been produced on the farm for many years. We are now switching to hay, which we sell to local forage suppliers, as well as making a few direct sales. Due to unpredictable weather and reliance on contractors, hay production here is a risky business.
